My husband and both of my children have colds and coughs brought about by the cold weather. They have a bland taste on whatever food I serve them, thus they eat less. I thought of cooking a sour soup viand to stimulate their tastebuds, and Voila! they enjoyed my Sinigang na Hipon (Sour Shrimp Soup)
Ingredients:
1/2 kilo of Medium sized shrimps (suahe)
1/4 kilo of calamansi, squeezed to extract the juice or Sinigang sa Sampalok Mix for an alternative
1 big white radish, sliced
camote tops
okra, or string beans (optional)
3-4 pcs. long green pepper
1 big tomato, quartered
1 onion, quartered
Water
salt
Procedure:
Bring to boil enough water in a casserole with the quartered tomatoes and onions added.
While boiling add the calamansi juice, sliced radish and the shrimps, slow down the fire to simmer it for another 10-15 minutes until the shrimp is cooked, add the camote tops, long green pepper and other preferred vegetables, add salt to taste. Cover and continue simmering it for another few minutes until the vegetables are tender. Do not over cook the vegetables.
Serve while it is hot.
